In February 2007 Serrano saw a need for Disaster Preparedness and with the help of 5 residents, started what is now a first class organization of volunteers and CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) members dedicated to serve the community. CERT is a national organization of volunteer first responders trained by State and County governments. Serrano now has over 40 CERT trained members that would be able to serve in any disaster nationwide.
Serrano Del Vista CERT offers our residents a group of basic classes during the spring and early summer of each year, that include first aid/ triage, light search and rescue, emergency radio procedures, fire suppression, and disaster preparedness. Our instructors are trained CERT members or have a background in the medical profession. Educational information is from Federal Homeland Security, the CERT Manual, Riverside County Office of Emergency Services, local fire and emergency agencies. The classes are informal and offer no certification. Our Board of Directors has given the CERT group permission to invite residents from the Banning Pass area to attend these classes.
